D300C Centre Speaker

In the early 1980s, Wharfedale created the blueprint for modern ‘budget’ hi-fi speakers. Almost four decades on, Wharfedale again redefines the low-cost, high-performance speaker concept with the all-new range, the D300 Series.

Running concurrently with the existing Diamond 11 Seblack finishries, attaining even lower price points, the D300 series has modishly styled enclosures incorporate many similar technologies, re-designed and engineered specifically for this new range. The drive units and bass reflex system are especially noteworthy – no other speaker range delivers such high specifications at such low prices.

Overview

Punching far above their weight

Wharfedale and a team of esteemed specialists have created a range of 'budget' speakers that punch far above their weight. Despite their compact size, the soundstage is substantial and engaging, with expressive midrange transitioning seamlessly into fluid high-frequency detail. The bass reaches surprising depths yet stays lucid, accurate and controlled — from rock and electronica to classical and jazz, the D300 Series delivers captivating sound.

The D300 Series uses the latest generation of Wharfedale's woven Kevlar cones bonded to a super-lightweight rubber surround, delivering remarkable clarity, texture and musical expression. A super-long-throw voice-coil motor system enables exceptional low-frequency linearity, while oversized ceramic magnets — a technology Wharfedale pioneered in the 1960s — ensure high sensitivity and absolute control of cone movement.

Crossover and cabinet design

The drive units are combined by a crossover developed with Wharfedale's Advanced Software and Listening Iteration system, using low-loss polypropylene capacitors and laminated-core inductors. The acoustically profiled cabinets feature 28mm-thick front baffles, critical panel bracing and a specially developed internal fibre lining — so the listener hears the drivers unsullied by panel vibration or internal resonance.

P-EQ bass reflex port

P-EQ bass reflex port

Developed from the Slot-Loaded Distributed Port of the Diamond 11 Series, the D300's P-EQ (Pressure Equalisation) port fires downward through precisely curved openings into the room, reducing the pressure differential that causes turbulence and 'chuffing' in conventional ports. The result is natural, deep, controlled bass — and the freedom to position the speakers closer to a rear wall.

Collaborate to innovate

Wharfedale called upon well-known specialists — responsible for many award-winning designs at sister companies Mission and Quad — to develop the D300 Series. Acoustic performance was managed by Peter Comeau, Wharfedale's Director of Acoustic Design and one of Britain's foremost loudspeaker designers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where should the D300C go in a home cinema?

The D300C is a dedicated centre channel — sit it directly below or above the screen, aligned with your front left/right speakers and angled toward ear height at the main seat. It anchors on-screen dialogue so voices stay clear and locked to the picture.

What amplifier should I pair with the D300C?

The D300C presents a nominal 4Ω load and 89dB sensitivity, and Wharfedale recommends roughly 25 - 120W per channel. A quality integrated amplifier or AV receiver in that range drives it cleanly without strain — aim for clean, stable power rather than maximum wattage.

What finishes does the D300C come in?

The D300C is available in Black, Walnut, Rosewood and White. All finishes are the same speaker acoustically — choose whichever best suits your room. Every option is in stock with free Australian shipping.
